History

Why do we celebrate Founders Week?

Petra College was started in 1986 as an idea and prayerful concept delivered as a motion at the AGM of a local Church. As 3 Churches came together to realise the vision of a school founded on Christian principles Petra was born.

By 1987 the first block of the junior school was ready for occupancy and the school now boasts infrastructure to support 600 junior age pupils. In 1993 the development of the senior school began and is now also able to support 600 pupils through to 6th Form.

The Vision for the College was that of 1 campus with 2 schools. A campus that helps pupils develop character and release potential through a holistic and Christian educational programme that is both inclusive and of a high international quality.

We celebrate Founders Day annually to give thanks to God and remember the people who have been involved in the building up of the Petra.

At the annual Founders’ Day we pause to give God honour and glory for what has been accomplished at Petra through the labour and love of many individuals over the years. We are also excited by the future God has in store for Petra College and the wider Bulawayo community as we continue to pursue the founding vision and deliver a first class, rigorous, holistic Christian principle based education to all who enter Petra.

Our motto is ‘Developing Character and Releasing Potential’

Our Principles are that of celebrating the God given uniqueness of each individual and ensuring their potential is recognised and achieved.
